Microwave with Food in Front

With the days getting shorter, and the nights getting colder, our energy bills are bound to take the hit. The season of carefully considering and calculating the electricity and gas usage is once again upon us.

Saving money on your energy has now become the top household priority, and for a good reason - your energy bill can triple in the cold months!

Now is the time to start thinking about the little things that make big impact - like the lurking energy vampires in your home.

If you want to be able to identify themaround your home, and save money on your energy bill, then keep reading, you're at the right place.

Hiding in your living room.

Your living room is a real dreamland for energy vampires. Think of all the devices you leave on stand-by such as TVs, computer, game consoles. Remember to unplug your laptop when it's stopped charging, and when you're going to bed.

You can also invest in smart power plugs , which can be set to automatically turn off at night, and turn on in the morning. Peripheral devices such as printers, and routers should be turned off.

Lurking in your Kitchen

We all love our digital clock devices, such as microwave, oven, coffee maker but do you ever think of how much energy they use? Although it requires a lot of power for the microwave to heat the food, the digital clock is actually the energy vampire you should be looking out for. When your microwave is plugged in, the digital clock ends up costing you more than heating up meals.

An easy way to battle the energy vampires in your kitchen, and save money on your energy bill is investing in a power strip with and On/Off switch. This way you can plug in all your energy-draining devices, and easily turn the power on and off when you're using them.

Sneaking in your bedroom

Think twice before you end up taking your laptop to the bedroom, putting a TV in it or charging your phone while you're sleeping. Chargers, space heaters, and even your digital alarm clock are sucking power, and inflating your energy bills.

Instead, choose to strip off the technology from your bedroom, and charge your phone fully before falling asleep, so you don't have to leave it on the charger overnight.

One thing you don't need to worry about - leaving the lights on. Forget that thing your mum said about the Blackpool Illuminations - your light bulbs are not using nearly as much energy, as we imagine, and you can get away with forgetting them here and there, without them having an impact on your bill.
